Revitalisation of a historical community place within the significant Warwick precinct (in association with ruben reddy architects)

Located significantly within Durban’s inner city educational and commercial quarter, Curries Fountain has a rich history of being a venue for non-racial sport and a starting point for many political events and marches.

Maintaining the heritage of social development and community ownership is a strong conceptual informant to the project. Today, the grounds are used extensively by educational institutions for sports and recreation functions and by private clubs for sports training. It also serves as a landmark location for sport and community events.

The opportunity exists for these activities to be harnessed through the establishment of a Sports Development Centre. The centre, allied with the educational activities of the DUT campus, will serve as an upliftment project for the region.
