About Choromanski

Choromanski Architects was established in 1994 by Rodney ‘Rod’ Choromanski [1961 – 2018]. Having completed his studies in architecture at the then University of Natal (now University of KwaZulu Natal) and gaining experience at highly respected architectural practices, Rod opened Choromanski Architects.

In 1996 Choromanski Architects was registered as a business in 1996 and focused on community work within the Greenwood Park area and Durban surrounds. In conjunction with opening Choromanski Architects, Rod engaged in a partnership with two other architects to form CNN Architects in 1996. This was a larger company structured to work on large scale projects as well as qualify for government work. In 2001 one of the partners relocated abroad, and Rod with the remaining partner continued to operate as CNN Architects gaining peer recognition in the architectural fraternity notably as design and conceptually strong practice.

In 2008 the two partners decided to pursue their architectural interests separately and Choromanski Architects was re-established now with the experience to handle larger and more complex projects. Dhiren Ramlal (Dean) qualified from the then ML Sultan Technikon (now Durban University of Technology) in 1996 with a B.Tech degree in Architectural Technology. He served his internship in 1994 at Choromanski Architects and joined the company as an Architectural Technologist on a permanent basis.

In 2000, Dean left Choromanski Architects and joined CNN Architects working as part of Rod’s team at the practice. Between 2000 and 2008, Dean became an associate with CNN Architects gaining much experience in the architectural profession. Dean joined Rod at the re established Choromanski Architects in 2008 and worked as a partner at the practice.

Rod Choromanski passed away in October 2018 and left the company to Dean, who officially became the owner of the practice in November 2019. The company was renamed as Choromanski Architecture in 2021. Currently we have a Pr.Arch, Tseliso ‘Tsidi ‘ Moahloli, who fulfils the role of Senior Architect; with Dhiren Ramlal as Owner of Choromanski Architecture and Pr.S.Arch.T – Professional Senior Architectural Technologist.
